How to Turn On the Java Console

From a console (command line) window, type the command

javaws -viewer

or, on the Mac, simply

javaws

and click here to proceed with configuring the Java Web Start console.

Under Linux or Windows, two windows will appear that look similar to the following:

Click the Close button on the lower right hand side of the Java Cache Viewer window.

On the Mac, only the Java Application Cache Viewer will show up. Under the Java Web Start menu, select Preferences.

Then click the Advanced tab on the Java Control Panel window so that the window now looks like this:

Click the Java console handle to expose the console settings.

It should look more or less like this:

Click the Show console button:

Then click the OK button. The Java Control Panel should disappear.

This will cause a Java Console window to appear when you run Jinx (or any other Java application, such as Jibber).

Unless there is an error, you may ignore this window. When you close Jinx the window should also go away.

However, if an error occurs, before you log off or otherwise shut down the application, please start up your favorite mail program, press the Copy button, and then clickhere and paste the contents into the email.
